Composer Jacob Cooper's new release, Terrain, is an ambitious and beautiful work.  Clara Prinston caught up with him to find out more about this stunning recording. 

Clara Prinston had the opportunity to speak with Nathalie Joachim and Doyle Armbrust of the Spektral Quartet to discuss their recent collaboration. One Last Song: Anonymous 4 Calls It An Era

An interview with Susan Hellauer, one of the founding members of the all-female vocal quartet Anonymous 4.

This Monday, November 23rd, a very special recital will be taking place on the campus of the University of TN.  World-renowned Wagnerian tenor, Gerhard Siegel and pianist Gabriel Dobner will be presenting a concert of German art song. Mr. Siegel has performed leading roles in opera houses all over the world, including the Vienna State Opera, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and the Metropolitan Opera to name just a few. He and Mr. Dobner have recently released a new recording which features many of the songs which they will be performing on this recital.  

The Oak Ridge Symphony is presenting a concert this Saturday evening at 7:30pm with the theme of "Baroque to Modern."  The program is at First United Methodist Church, Oak Ridge, and features music of Telemann, Tchaikovsky, and Stravinsky.

Morning Concert host, Melony Dodson, has an in-depth conversation with conductor Dan Allcott about the music on this program and also about the Neoclassical period.

Knoxville Opera has taken on the challenge of producing a thrilling and seldom-performed opera: Arrigo  Boito's Mefistofele.  Combining the forces of a 100+ member choir, multiple brass choirs, 50+ member orchestra, and internationally-renowned opera singers, this epic production is sure to be one that shouldn't be missed. Starring the Metropolitan Opera's Donovan Singletary as the devil and Russian soprano, Julia Lima as the beautiful Margherita, Mefistofele tells the classic tale of good vs. evil. 

The Oak Ridge Symphony and Chorus kick off their 2015 season this Saturday evening featuring music with a British theme. Conductor, Dan Allcott leads the symphony as they perform Mendelssohn's "Hebrides Overture" and Haydn's "London Symphony."  Cellist, Wesley Baldwin will join them as they share Sir Edward Elgar's haunting Cello Concerto in E minor and chorus director, Seth Maples will lead their presentation of 2 Coronation anthems by Handel.  Following the concert will be a reception, where concert-goers can enjoy "tea and crumpets."

The University of TN School of Music is hosting a very unique contemporary music festival this week and next: The Nief-Norf Summer Festival.  Not only is this an educational festival, where students and professionals alike come to learn, collaborate, and perform, but it's also a festival that brings new and exciting music to the public, as well as thought-provoking lectures.

The Knoxville Opera is putting together a production of Verdi's romantic drama, Il Trovatore.  Performances are Friday, April 24th at 8pm and Sunday, April 26th at 2:30.  Maestro Salesky will host an opera preview 45 minutes prior to each performance and opera fans who find themselves without a companion to see the opera are encouraged to inquire about KO's new program, the "Sempre Opera Society."  Il Trovatore will be sung in Italian with projected English translations.
