Knoxville Opera presents the TN premiere of Boito's "Mefistofele"

knoxvilleopera.com

Knoxville Opera has taken on the challenge of producing a thrilling and seldom-performed opera: Arrigo Boito's Mefistofele.  Combining the forces of a 100+ member choir, multiple brass choirs, 50+ member orchestra, and internationally-renowned opera singers, this epic production is sure to be one that shouldn't be missed. Starring the Metropolitan Opera's Donovan Singletary as the devil and Russian soprano, Julia Lima as the beautiful Margherita, Mefistofele tells the classic tale of good vs. evil.

Stage director Brian Deedrick, who directed Knoxville Opera's successful productions of Die Fledermaus and Elixir of Love returns to direct this massive work. Earlier this week, he talked with Melony Dodson and gave an impassioned perspective from the director's chair of the ins and outs of putting this work together.

Performances of Boito's Mefistofele are Friday, October 9th at 8pm and Sunday, October 11th at 2:30pm and as always, will be held in the magnificent Tennessee Theatre. More information available at knoxvilleopera.com

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
