The Oak Ridge Symphony opens the 2015 season with a British-themed concert

The Oak Ridge Symphony and Chorus kick off their 2015 season this Saturday evening featuring music with a British theme. Conductor, Dan Allcott leads the symphony as they perform Mendelssohn's "Hebrides Overture" and Haydn's "London Symphony."  Cellist, Wesley Baldwin will join them as they share Sir Edward Elgar's haunting Cello Concerto in E minor and chorus director, Seth Maples will lead their presentation of 2 Coronation anthems by Handel.  Following the concert will be a reception, where concert-goers can enjoy "tea and crumpets."

This week, Melony Dodson talked with Dan Allcott, whose enthusiastic knowledge about these pieces never fail to inform and entertain.

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
