The Knoxville Choral Society (KCS) was founded in 1951 by a group of musicians who wanted to get together to sing Handel's Messiah. The experience was such a success that they continued to rehearse and perform and thus, the Knoxville Choral Society was born. Today, the ensemble is made up of 100 volunteer singers. They frequently perform with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, present their own concerts, and collaborate with local schools, churches, and community arts organizations.
To celebrate this important milestone, the KCS commissioned composer, Andrew Duncan (who is also KCS's assistant director and collaborative pianist) to write a new work, titled Images of Knoxville, that celebrates the city of Knoxville. Director, John Orr, also selected a few works that reflect the history of KCS and some of the more traditional pieces that the choir performs.
The performance is Friday, April 24th, 7:30pm at Central Bearden Church in Knoxville, located at 6300 Deane Hill Dr. There is a second performance on Saturday, April 25th at 3pm at the Community Church at Tellico Village.
