The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra (KSO) presents its next MoxCar Marketing and Communications Masterworks Series concert on Thursday and Friday, October 15th and 16th at 7:30pm. As usual, the performance will be given in the magnificent Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville. On the program is Julia Perry's Ye Who Seek the Truth, Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony, and the TN premiere of Leonard Bernstein's Songfest.

Songfest is a song cycle that sets poetry by thirteen American poets, which ties in with this season's focus on the relationship between poetry and music. Despite it being composed fifty years ago, this performance will mark the TN premiere of the work being performed in its entirety. Scored for six vocal soloists and a large symphony orchestra, Maestro Demirjian explains the challenges of programming this work which celebrates the complexities of America. Complexities that are as true now as they were fifty years ago.

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
