Mozart's 40th Symphony: Instrumental in expanding the symphonic form

www.knoxvillesymphony.com

Melony Dodson talks with conductor, Aram Demirjian and principal horn, Jeffery Whaley, about the Knoxville Symphony's Chamber Series concert featuring music of Richard Strauss, Mozart, and Florence Price.

The Knoxville Symphony opens the Roy Cockrum Chamber Series this year with Mozart's dramatic Symphony No. 40 in G minor, the Octet for Brasses and Piano by Florence Price, and Richard Strauss' Horn Concerto No. 1, featuring principal horn, Jeffery Whaley. The performance is on Sunday, September 28 at 2:39pm in the historic Bijou Theatre in downtown Knoxville. Tickets and additional information at https://knoxvillesymphony.com/concert/mozart-more/

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
