The Knoxville Choral Society and West High School Choirs join together in song

Melony Dodson talks with conductor, John Orr, about the Knoxville Choral Society's upcoming concert, A Community in Song

The Knoxville Choral Society (KCS) presents its next performance, A Community in Song, on Friday, February 28th at 7:30pm at Central Bearden church in Knoxville. This concert features a collaboration with the 2025 KCS Scholarship Winners (Jie Lee, soprano, Louis Lee, tenor, and Deepti Kumar, soprano) and the West High School Singers and Chorale, under the direction of Drew Carpenter.

Under the direction of Dr. John Orr, the KCS will present works that weave together poetic themes of renewal and connection, highlighting the unifying power of song. Additionally, the KCS and West High School Choirs will join together to perform three selections: "Set Me As a Seal" by René Clausen, "Sing" by PINKZEBRA, and "I'll Fly Away", arranged by Faith Zimmer.

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
