Melony Dodson talks about Vivaldi and extended oboe techniques with KSO oboists, Claire Chenette and Ayca Yayman

KSO Oboists, Claire Chenette and Ayca Yayman, are the featured soloists with the Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra on their upcoming chamber classics concert. Together, they will perform Vivaldi's Concerto in D minor for Two Oboes, RV 535, and another double oboe concerto by Viet Cuong titled "Extra(ordinarily) Fancy." This entertaining piece involves a bit of theatrics as the two oboists "battle it out", all while employing unusual-sounding oboe techniques such as multiphonics.

The Chamber Orchestra strings will also perform Adolphus Hailstork's "Baroque Suite" and Beethoven's Symphony No.8. The performance is on Sunday May 7th at 2:30pm in the beautiful Bijou Theatre in downtown Knoxville. Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
