Archaeology lecture: The Uluburun Shipwreck and Late Bronze Age Maritime Trade

Archaeology lecture: The Uluburun Shipwreck and Late Bronze Age Maritime Trade

Dr. Cemal Pulak, Professor of Nautical Archaeology at Texas A&M University, will talk about the world-famous late 14th-century BCE shipwreck of Uluburun, dating to roughly the time of Tutankhamun. It was found near Kaş off the south coast of Turkey. The ship carried a royal cargo of enormous wealth, which has thrown unprecedented light on Late Bronze Age maritime trade networks in the Mediterranean and beyond. Cemal Pulak is the successor of George Bass (a pioneer of maritime archaeology). He took over the excavation of the wreck from Bass, and has been studying the finds for the last few decades.
