Wu Fei Redefines Chinese Classical Music

From Beijing to Nashville, Wu Fei has redefined Chinese classical music.  From collaborations with John Zorn to Abigial Washburn, she has opened up what the guzheng can bring to modern music.  Wu Fei performs live in the studio and discusses the magic of her instrument. She will be back in Knoxville this spring as part of the Big Ears Festival.  This podcast version includes the full performance and interview with Todd Steed.

A Knoxville native, Todd began working at WUOT in 2006 as jazz coordinator and host of Improvisations. He is now the music director and host of of Studio 865/Flipside and Changing Course, and also produces podcasts such as Improvisations to Go and Raised in Knoxville. Todd got his start in radio at WUTK, where he served as both news and music director while earning his undergraduate degree in journalism at UT. He later earned a master’s degree in education, also at UT.
