Marble City Opera Presents A Staged Performance Of Schubert's "Winterreise"

A wanderer's solitary journey through the woods in search of something...but what? That is the story of Franz Schubert's dramatic song cycle Die Winterreise. It's the iconic tale of a broken heart that we all can relate to, but the search for healing, greater awareness, and a new path in life after experiencing a loss is something that extends beyond heartache.

Normally performed as a concert work, Marble City Opera is presenting a staged version with video projections to help tell the story and immerse the listener in the wanderer's journey. Performances are November 6th and 7th at 7:30pm and will be given in Trentham Hall at First Baptist Church in downtown Knoxville. Socially-distanced seating is limited to 75 patrons and masks will be required. An online viewing option is also available.

The creative team is: tenor, Blayne Ziegenfuss, pianist, Grace McMullen, and stage director and video designer, Kathryn Frady. Tickets and information are available online at http://marblecityopera.com

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
