Marble City Opera Closes Its Season With Puccini's 'Suor Angelica'

Marble City Opera (MCO) concludes its 2018-2019 season, "Season of Women", with Puccini's heartbreaking one-act tragedy Suor Angelica. The story takes place in a covent and fittingly, MCO has set their production in the lovely courtyard at St. John's Cathedral in downtown Knoxville. The audience will meet about twenty nuns and will learn of one nun's intimate loss.

The gorgeous score by Puccini will be performed by an eighteen-piece orchestra, conducted by Allan R. Scott. James Marvel returns as stage director and MCO's Executive Director, Kathryn Frady, will sing the title role.

Performances are May 30th, 31st, and June 1st at 7:30pm. Tickets and information at http://marblecityopera.com

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
