The world-renowned chamber ensemble, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, will perform with the virtuoso and innovative guitarist, JIJI, Sunday afternoon at 3pm in Oak Ridge's Pollard Auditorium. Founded in 1982, the Mexican-based quartet has over 80 albums to their name and two Latin Grammys. Proponents of Latin American chamber music, they have premiered over 100 works written for them and continue to commission new music from emerging composers. The Cuarteto has performed all over the world, working closely with celebrated conductors, including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Gerard Schwarz, and Eduardo Mata.
Korean classical guitarist, JIJI, is a passionate advocate for new music. In addition to commissioning and premiering new works, she performs her own compositions, incorporating electronic media and acoustic music. Her 2019 season included her Lincoln Center debut in April as part of the "Great Performers" series.
JIJI and the Cuarteto Latinoamericano will collaborate for the first time at their performance in Oak Ridge. The program includes music by Vivaldi, Piazzolla, Villa-Lobos, Boccherini, and more.
