Harpsichordist, Dr. Malcolm Matthews and violinist, Jun Iwasaki will present a recital of music from the Baroque era at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Knoxville, Sunday February 21st at 5pm. While there will be a few invited people in the audience, the concert will be offered as a livestream on Youtube.
A Knoxville-native, Malcolm is presently the Associate Organist and Choirmaster of Christ Church Cathedral in Nashville. He holds Master's Degrees in both Harpsichord and Organ Performance, as well as a DMA in Organ Performance, all earned from the Eastman School of Music. Violinist, Jun Iwasaki, is presently Concertmaster of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and is also an Adjunct Professor of Violin at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music. He is a graduate of the Cleveland School of Music's prestigious Concertmaster Academy.
Sunday's recital will feature a combination of music for solo harpsichord as well as collaborative works, all from the Baroque period. Malcolm says the intent is to compare and contrast German and Italianate styles from this era. Dr. Matthews will perform on the cathedral's newly acquired Robert Duffy harpsichord.
