Grammy Award-Winning Guitarist Jason Vieaux Discusses Rodrigo, His Guitar, And New Recordings

Guitarist Jason Vieaux was awarded the Grammy award for best solo instrumental performance in 2015. Since winning the award, Vieaux says that his professional life hasn't changed too much; he still maintains an extremely busy performing, recording, and teaching career. He teaches at both the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music and spends Summers in Greensboro, NC teaching at the prestigious Eastern Music Festival. Highly in demand as a soloist and collaborator, Vieaux performs all over the world and is known not only for his virtuosity, but also for his expressive playing. Jason has just released a recording, along with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, of a new guitar concerto by Jonathan Leshnoff and an album with the Escher String Quartet, featuring Aaron Jay Kernis' 100 Greatest Dance Hits is set to release in just a few months.

Jason Vieaux will perform Joaquin Rodrigo's spirited and hauntingly beautiful Concierto de Aranjuez with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Thursday, May 16th and Friday, May 17th. Both performances are at 7:30pm and are presented in the Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville. Tickets and information are available online at http://knoxvillesymphony.com

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
