KSO spins fantastic tales with its March Masterworks Program

Matthew Motley speaks with Guest Conductor and Maryville Native Connor Gray Covington about the full circle moment of taking the podium of his hometown orchestra, his approach to music and more.

On March 20 and 21 at 7:30 in the Tennessee Theatre, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra welcomes guest conductor Conner Gray Covington and pianist Janice Carissa for a concert featuring Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor, Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov’s spectacular Scheherazade, and Anna Clyne's This Midnight Hour.

A Kansas native, Matthew began his journey south by attending the University of Georgia. It was here that he got his start in public radio, working on WUGA’s classical program Night Music. After graduating in 2024 with degrees in music and computer science, Matthew joined WUOT as host of the Afternoon Concert.
