The Amadeus Concert Ensemble shares an elegant evening of music by Strauss

Melony Dodson talks with conductor and artistic director, Brian Salesky, about the Amadeus Concert Ensemble's upcoming performance of The Golden Age of Strauss

The Amadeus Concert Ensemble presents its next performance, The Golden Age of Strauss, on Sunday, March 9th at 5:30pm. The concert will be given at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville, as part of the Cathedral Concert Series. The program includes works by several composers with the last name of Strauss: Richard, Oscar (Straus), Johann Jr. and Johann Sr. Both instrumental and vocal selections will be performed, featuring sopranos, Katherine Whyte and Ashley Fabian, mezzo-soprano, Anna Kelly, tenor, John Overholt, and a large orchestra led by Maestro Salesky.

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
