Appalachia: A Southeastern Wind Symphony and the Knoxville Asian Festival collaborate to create a celebration of Asian culture in a concert and mini festival to be presented on Saturday, February 11th at Knoxville Catholic High School's Gregory the Great Auditorium. The concert will begin at 7pm and will feature music by Japanese composers Yasuhide Ito, Hirokazu Fukushima, and Yo Goto, as well as Julie Giroux's Bookmarks from Japan, which is inspired by famous pieces of Japanese art. Shamisen Knoxville will also perform traditional Japanese music during the concert. The Knoxville Asian Festival will present a pre-concert "mini festival" beginning at 6pm, which will include interactive displays and various demonstrations, including a Kendo demonstration and green tea ceremony.
In its fifth season, Appalachia: A Southeastern Wind Symphony is a Knoxville-based regional wind symphony. Founded by Artistic Director and Conductor, Logan Campbell, this intercollegiate wind ensemble strives to create networking opportunities for young musicians while providing an outlet for professional music-making. The ensemble attracts musicians from numerous states in the Southeast and they perform multiple concerts each year.
