Using the Whole Apple: Canning and Beyond
Have you ever considered canning your own food? Have you wanted to but don’t know where to start? Why can? It’s a foolproof way to preserve food, whether you grow the food yourself, purchase from a grocery store, or from the local farm market. And the bonus? You don’t have to worry about food spoiling in the event of a power outage. Canned food is shelf stable for at least a year. So. Now is the time to start your canning journey! Just think of all the possibilities and all that food you will be enjoying during the long, cold winter months.
In this canning class, held at Three Rivers Market, not only will you get practical hands-on experience making a small batch recipe and then canning it, we are going to use the whole product and make “Apple Scrap Vinegar” with the leftover apple skins and cores!! You will NOT want to miss this class, but register early as class size is limited to 10 people. No experience necessary.
What you’ll learn:
1. Tools needed to get started and where to source them
2. How to water bath can simple foods
3. Proper handling and care of canning equipment
4. How to make your own apple scrap vinegar
