'Great Train Robber' Ronnie Biggs Dies; Was Famed Fugitive
In 1963, a gang robbed the Glasgow-to-London Royal Mail Train. They got away with millions, but were caught and put in prison. Biggs, though, escaped and spent 36 years living openly in Brazil. The self-styled "lovable rogue" returned to the U.K. in 2001 and spent 8 more years in prison. He was 84.
Senate Approves Budget Deal, Reducing Chances Of A Shutdown
The deal, with much less drama than past spending votes, is OK'd by a simple majority nearly a week after the House approved the measure.

The Campaign For Jobless Benefits Begins In Congress
Senate Democrats will ring in the New Year with a vote on a three-month extension of benefits for the long-term unemployed. Benefits for those jobless for more than six months expired on Dec. 28. Prospects for a revival of benefits are uncertain at best in the Senate, and the measure faces even bigger hurdles in the House.

Venezuela 'Occupies' An Electronics Chain To Offer Lower Prices
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said the quasi-nationalization was to "protect the middle class." Prices on TVs and other electronics at Daka and other electronics stores will now be set by the government.
Can Probiotics Help Soothe Colicky Babies?
As many as 15 percent of babies have colic, which can cause bouts of inconsolable crying. Researchers are testing probiotics to see if these good bacteria can help. But they don't know how the supplements work, or how they may affect children's health long term.

In a series of predawn raids, agents arrested five alleged mobsters in connection with the decades-old robbery of $5 million in cash and $1 million in jewels from a Lufthansa cargo building at JFK International airport.
