The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra's 37th annual free Independence Day Concert returns to World's Fair Park, after not being able to perform in 2020 due to Covid-19. The concert will be given at 8pm on Saturday, July 3rd in the Tennessee Amphitheatre, and will feature familiar favorites such as The Stars and Stripes Forever, Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, and America the Beautiful, as well as some new works, including Valerie Coleman's Seven O'Clock Shout, which will be played to honor all of those who served our community during the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, Knoxville poet laureate, Rhea Carmon, will provide original poetry for the event.
Audience members can sit in the amphitheatre, or may choose to bring a blanket or chairs to enjoy the performance from the surrounding lawn. The concert will be projected onto large LED screens for those who choose to watch the performance from the lawn. Food will not be sold at this event, but patrons may bring their own picnic dinner.
