The KSO, Marble City Opera, and GO! Contemporary Dance Works Present "The Soldier's Tale"

Knoxville Symphony Orchestra

Three Knoxville arts organizations are collaborating to present a livestreamed performance of Igor Stravinsky's theatrical work with music, "The Soldier's Tale," Sunday, February 7th at 2:30pm. Members of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will provide the music, with music director, Aram Demirjian, conducting the seven member chamber ensemble. Narration will be provided by Kathryn Frady of Marble City Opera, with stage direction by James Marvel. Lisa McKee of GO! Contemporary Dance Works is the choreographer, with dancer, Ashlynn Mason playing the role of the princess. Rounding out the cast is Joshua Allen playing the role of the soldier and Rick Eldridge playing the role of the devil.

Stravinsky's unusual piece premiered in 1918, which was in the midst of the last global pandemic, the Spanish Flu. With its small cast and orchestration and theme of "appreciate and value what you have," Stravinsky's "The Soldier's Tale" is as relevant today as it was when it was composed over a hundred years ago.

The performance will be livestreamed from the Bijou Theatre. Tickets and additional information can be found at http://knoxvillesymphony.com

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
