It's estimated fully a third of healthcare spending in the United States is considered waste. that spending includes unnecessary tests and treatments that don't improve or change patient outcomes. Neil Goldfarb is the president and CEO of the Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health. Earlier this year he talked about wasteful spending at an event sponsored by Healthcare 21, a coalition of companies focused on healthcare in East Tennessee. In this edition of HealthConnections, Goldfarb tells host Brandon Hollingsworth about Choosing Wisely, a program designed to inform and empower people to make smarter healthcare choices, and how employers that provide insurance can do the same.
