Each year, the University of Tennessee’s Distinguished Lecture in Religious Studies spotlights new research. This year’s speaker is Dr. Marla Frederick, the Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Religion and Culture at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. Dr. Frederick has studied the activism and faith of Black women in the US South and American televangelism and its impact outside of the US. Right now, she’s researching the history of of HBCUs, Historically Black Colleges and Universities. WUOT’s Chrissy Keuper spoke with her about that research.
