Learn about Chanukah through music performed by the Amadeus Concert Ensemble

Melony Dodson talks with Brian Salesky, artistic director of the Amadeus Concert Ensemble, about their upcoming performance, Chanukah Music Fest. Salesky explains the holiday of Chanukah and how their program will highlight some of the traditions, ceremonies, and history of this annual celebration.

The Amadeus Concert Ensemble (formerly the Amadeus Chamber Ensemble) is presenting a Chanukah Music Fest on Sunday, December 8th at 4pm. The performance will be given at the Arnstein Jewish Community Center in Knoxville, located on Deane Hille Dr., and is part of the 25th anniversary celebration for the Knoxville Jewish Community Family of Funds

The concert is divided into five parts, each section celebrating Jewish culture, history, and traditions. The performance features soprano, Abigail Santos Villalobos, alto, Diana Salesky, tenor, John Overholt, baritone, Joel Brown, Brian Salesky, piano, and the Knoxville Jewish Day School Choir. The concert will also include speeches and stories shared by presenters, Keith Barber, Bryan Goldberg, Mayor Indya Kincannon, Mary Linda Schwarzbart, and Mark Siegel. The performance is free and no reservations/tickets are required.

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
