Starting with a sheet of white paper: the KSO season 23-24

David Bickley

KSO Music Director Aram Demirjian talks to Charlotte Wilson about starting with a sheet of white paper, his programming philosophy and highlights of the season to come, along with the music of the universe, the "American Brahms", and the symphony that has been on his bucket-list for years

Charlotte comes to Knoxville from New Zealand, where she worked for many years for Radio New Zealand and a stint at BBC Radio 3 before bucking the trend of the last few years and falling in love with the USA. First stop: KBAQ Phoenix, where she announces the Sunday evening show. Then she found WUOT and here she is on the Afternoon Concert, with a wealth of experience that includes hosting live concerts and interviews with all sorts of artists from Neville Marriner to Judy Collins to the Kronos Quartet. For years she hosted the daily live interviews on RNZ Concert, also a range of shows and series that include Art Life Music on fine art - art and music run in the family, also a predilection for acquiring random new instruments (the latest is a mandolin). For years she hosted a weekly contemporary classical show on RNZ and the Big Ears festival is one of the things that attracted her here. As well as those Great Smoky Mountains!
