What sustains YOU?

Maybe it’s that first cup of coffee in the morning during Morning Edition, or laughing along with Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me! on Saturdays while you are running errands. Perhaps you tune in for the classical concerts or jazz programming. But if you’re like most WUOT fans, you rely on this public radio station to sustain you all day!

Ask 12-year-old Evergreen member Auden Cole, and he’ll tell you it’s the news.

  "I listen to the news mostly. I like how … they announce famous people’s birthday and that it’s national ‘something’ day,” he said. “I learn about the elections … because I find them entertaining. Sometimes I tell my schoolmates about political news and stuff. Like if things that happen that are really big—that’s what I usually tell them."

Auden loves WUOT. And when he heard that he could become a sustaining member during the last fund drive, he asked his mother if he could use his allowance to join the Evergreen Member Club.

His mother, Karyn Adams, said it surprised her when Auden said he wanted to pledge. “And we had to discuss what a pledge was—that it’s a promise,” she said.

According to Auden, “It is important to give because if you listen to the radio you should give. And if not enough people give, the radio station might not exist anymore. And then they would think ‘Aw, I should have done that.’”
