The WordPlayers Presents an Evening of Theatrical Magic

WordPlayers to produce Lauren Gunderson’s masterful and illuminating play, Silent Sky. Show dates are October 5, 6, 12, and 13 at 7:30 PM, and October 8 and 15 at 2:30 PM. Though it is not a “church activity,” The WordPlayers will use the lovely, intimate auditorium of Erin Presbyterian Church, located at 200 Lockett Rd. in the Bearden area of west Knoxville. Silent Sky, the true story of 19th century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them. Social progress, like scientific progress, can be hard to see when one is trapped among earthly complications; Henrietta and her female peers believe in both, and their dedication changed the way we understand both the heavens and the earth.
