Voices Rediscovered: A Viola Ensemble Celebration of Women Composers
The Knoxville Chamber Music Society presents a striking program spanning five centuries of music by women composers, performed by an all-star viola ensemble. From Maddalena Casulana — the first woman to have her music published in the Western tradition — to contemporary voices like Jennifer Higdon and Katrina Wreede, this concert traces a remarkable, often overlooked lineage of composers, including Martha Callison Horst, Sakari Dixon Vanderveer, Elaine Fine, Florence Price, and Elizabeth Rennie.
Bringing this music to life is a dream team of violists: Daphne Gerling, Katherine Lewis, Hillary Herndon, Meredith Harris, Amber Archibald, and Whitney Bullock.
