FBI Wants To Hear From Meningitis Victims

A US Attorney is asking victims of last year’s outbreak of fungal meningitis to register on a website for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Boston US Attorney Carmen Ortiz hasn’t said when the grand jury will convene, but the FBI is gathering information for a criminal investigation of that outbreak, which sickened 751 people in 20 states and killed 64.

Tennessee is second only to Michigan for the number of illnesses and deaths from that outbreak, caused by tainted injectable steroids from the now-closed New England Compounding Center in Massachusetts. Sixteen people who died were treated in Tennessee.

The FBI wants anyone who received one of the tainted injections to fill out a questionnaire.
