A new report on health system performance and low-income populations puts Tennessee among the lowest-performing states.

The Commonwealth Fund's Scorecard on State Health System Performance for Low-Income Populations* aims to find ways that states can improve health care, particularly with regard to those low-income residents.

Tennessee ranked 40th among the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Its lowest scores were in avoidable hospital use; healthy lifestyles; and access to and affordability of health care. The report also found that Tennessee’s out-of-pocket health care costs and the number of uninsured and underinsured individuals are above the national average.
