As many of you may know, the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association (ORCMA) has been searching for its next Music Director to replace Dan Allcott, who served as Music Director for twelve seasons. Fifty-three highly qualified conductors applied, but only four were chosen to move on to the final round, which gave them each the opportunity to design a program and to conduct the Oak Ridge Symphony and Chorus. Ian Passmore is the final candidate to stand on the conductor's podium and will lead the symphony and chorus in a concert entitled "Family Meeting! A Musical Time Machine."
The concert will be given on Sunday, November 20th at 3pm, once again at First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge, and will feature piano soloist, Clare Longendyke, who will perform the Peanuts Gallery Suite for piano and orchestra by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. Also on the program is Musicks Empire by Lloyd Pfauntsch, Giovanni Gabrieli's Sonata pian'e forte for brass, Max Reger's Serenade for Winds in B-flat, Elgar's Serenade for Strings in E minor, and Haydn's Symphony No.88.
Ian holds a Doctor of Music degree in orchestral conducting from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Delaware, and a Bachelors degree in music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His principal conducting mentors were David Effron, Arthur Fagan, and James Allen Anderson, among others. Following two seasons as the Omaha Symphony's Assistant Conductor, Ian was named Associate Conductor in 2019. Prior to his appointment in Omaha, Ian served as Associate Instructor of Orchestral Conducting at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
