Marble City Opera Performs Argento's "Postcard From Morocco"

On Thursday and Friday, May 10th and 11th, Marble City Opera will present Dominick Argento's one-act opera, Postcard from Morocco. Performances will be given at the Jackson Terminal, located in the "Old City" of downtown Knoxville. The opera takes place at a train station. There are seven characters in the opera, each attached to a specific item and each on his/her way to some unknown destination. Although there is not a specific storyline, per se, the opera highlights human cruelty, and the resulting armor we all put up: the acts of questioning others' motivations and being suspicious of one another, without really taking the time to see our commonalities and being completely unaware of a "puppet master" who is skillfully controlling us.   Performances are at 8pm. Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
