HHS Secretary to Visit Memphis

J. Scott Applewhite/Associated Press

The government official at the center of the healthcare website debacle will be in Tennessee today. U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will be in Memphis, where she will deliver remarks and take questions from reporters.

Nominally, Sebelius is in the state to show support for Get Covered Tennessee, an effort to enroll Tennesseans for health insurance. But it's likely she'll get questions about the troubled Healthcare.gov insurance exchange website. Secretary Sebelius was grilled over the website's numerous problems at a Congressional hearing earlier this week. In that hearing, she apologized and took responsibility for the issues that have kept untold numbers of Americans from signing up for health coverage online.

Sebelius will be joined by Memphis mayor AC Wharton and 9th District Congressman Steve Cohen (D-Memphis). But one official who won't be in attendance is Governor Bill Haslam. A spokesman for Haslam's office says the governor will be in Washington at an investment summit.
