ELECTION 2012: 13th District State House Race Not Over Yet

Nov 7, 2012

It was among the most competitive local races in Tuesday's election.  The race for the 13th State House seat pitted a former schoolteacher and Democratic Party Chair against a former television reporter and small businessman.  While unofficial results list Democrat Gloria Johnson as the winner, her opponent Republican Gary Loe says it's not over yet.  WUOT's Matt Shafer Powell reports.

All four of East Tennessee's congressmen are up for re-election on November 6, 2012 and so is one of the state's two senators. Though the biggest campaign contributions this year are going to swing states, money is an essential part of every political race. WUOT's All Things Considered host Brandon Hollingsworth looks at who's paying for the region's Congressional races, and what it means.

ELECTION 2012: Knoxville's Pension Plan Question

Oct 16, 2012

As early voting in Tennessee gets underway, Knoxville voters will cast ballots that could change the city charter. At issue: the pension plan for city workers. Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero has proposed what she calls a "hybrid" pension plan. It would apply to any employee hired after January 1, 2013, and would close the current pension plan. Changes will include a rise in retirement age and an increase in the pension vesting period (from 5 years to 10 years). The new plan would also put limits on defined benefits, or those benefits guaranteed by the city.
