Music honoring and celebrating fallen heros; that was intent behind Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. (Other than creating magnificent music, that is). This Sunday afternoon at 4pm, the UT Symphony Orchestra (UTSO) tackles this epic work, under the leadership of Maestro James Fellenbaum. Performing just a few weeks after classes have begun, this talented group of young, hard-working musicians are showing us that exciting things are in store for the UTSO. Speaking of exciting things that are in store, the UTK School of Music has planned, for the next two years, a celebration of this monumental composer, who changed the course of not only symphonies, but also concerti, piano sonatas, and chamber works. The year of 2020 marks the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth and he is such an important figure in the classical music world that one year just isn't long enough to celebrate him.
The concert will be presented at 4pm in Cox Auditorium, located in the Alumni Memorial Building on the UTK campus and is free and open to the public. More information the lineup of Beethoven250 performances (as it currently stands) at www.music.utk.edu/beethoven250
