We've talked about health disparities before. Those are differences in treatment or outcome, and different groups (age, ethnicity, income) have different disparities. In this edition of HealthConnections, a primer on the unique experiences of LGBTQ people and their medical providers.
Common concerns include fears of discrimination, a reluctance to seek treatment and higher risks for certain illnesses. Those concerns can also extend to quality of life, such as social isolation. Dr. Jennifer Jabson researches LGBTQ health disparities at the University of Tennessee's Department of Public Health. She shares some of her findings and observations with Dr. Carole Myers.
