Election Day: Views From Nashville and Memphis

Knox County Election Commission

Tuesday, November 3, is election day. While you may have long ago gotten your fill of stories about the presidential candidates, chances are you've heard less about state-level races and issues.

In Middle Tennessee, Democrats hope to flip a seat currently held by a moderate Republican. Southeast of Nashville, former House Speaker Glen Casada hopes to hold on to his legislative career against two challengers.

In Memphis, voting officials have plans in case things go wrong, from long lines at polling stations to civil unrest. And John Deberry is hoping voters will elect him to a fourteenth term. He went looking for a new political home after the Democratic Party kicked him out earlier this year.

To get an impression of what’s happening today across Tennessee, WUOT’s Brandon Hollingsworth is joined by Sergio Martínez-Beltrán of WPLN in Nashville and Christopher Blank of WKNO in Memphis.
