Jim Blalock

Forever Part of Our Team

Jim has been in public radio since 1983.  He began at WEKU-FM, Richmond, KY, played with the Lexington Philharmonic and graduated from University of Kentucky with a bachelors in music.  Following a stint in Toluca, Mexico with the Orquesta Sinfonica del Estado de Mexico, Jim moved to Cincinnati, where he worked at WGUC-FM while obtaining a masters in music.  He also played with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Pops and several other groups.

Blalock then became music director at WETS-FM, Johnson City, TN, where he was host of "Morning Classics" for many years.  He later served as public affairs director and then program director.  He was principal horn with Symphony of the Mountains, instructor of horn at East Tennessee State University, and substituted with the Knoxville Symphony.  Jim is excited to be back on the air and joining a high quality group of people who are passionate about public radio.

Jim passed away in November 2019 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. WUOT was fortunate to call Jim a colleague, mentor, and encyclopedia of classical music knowledge. More importantly, Jim was our friend and he will forever be a part of our team.
