The UT Symphony Orchestra returns to the stage on Sunday, September 18th at 4pm, presenting a program titled "New Frontiers." This program will feature four works by American composers: a suite from The Magnificent Seven by Elmer Bernstein, Aaron Copland's "Billy the Kid" suite, "Fanfare on Amazing Grace" by Adolphus Hailstork, and the world premiere of the Tuba Concerto No.2 (This Too Shall Pass) by Todd Goodman, featuring Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of TN, Knoxville, Alex Lapins. The concert will be given in Cox Auditorium and is free and open to the public. Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
