Flying Anvil Theatre's "A Kid Like Jake" Tackles the Topics of Labeling and Parenthood

"A Kid Like Jake" opens at the Flying Anvil Theatre on Thursday, June 16th and runs through June 26th. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoons at 2pm. This play examines, through the perspective of parenthood, our human tendency to "label" or to "put things in a box." Director Doug James says that it will make you laugh and cry...and hopefully will generate a conversation among audience members, about a topic that can be divisive.

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
