Marble City Opera Presents the World Premiere of "I Can't Breathe"

A conversation with librettist, Brandon J. Gibson, and Kathryn Frady, Executive and Artistic Director of Marble City Opera

Marble City Opera presents the world premiere of I Can't Breathe. With music by Leslie Savoy Burrs and libretto by Knoxville-based writer, Brandon J. Gibson, this opera was inspired by and written in the wake of repeated instances of fatal police brutality. Performances are February 24-26 at the Beck Cultural Exchange Center on Dandridge Ave. in Knoxville. In-person tickets are currently sold out, but livestream tickets still remain.

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
