WUOT was proud to host StoryCorps’ MobileBooth on Historic Market Square from Oct. 4-Nov. 15, 2010, as part of the station’s 60th anniversary celebrations. It was WUOT’s gift not only to listeners but also to the entire East Tennessee community.
WUOT thanks StoryCorps’ local corporate sponsors—The City of Knoxville, Jupiter Entertainment, and Pilot Corporation—for their support of this wonderful community outreach initiative.
StoryCorps’ mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of their lives. East Tennesseans recorded a conversation with a loved one and received a broadcast-quality CD. StoryCorps will archive another copy at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
You can hear excerpts from some of the conversations recorded while StoryCorps was in Knoxville on WUOT during NPR’s Morning Edition each Monday at 5:35 and 7:35 a.m. After they air, we’ll post links to the excerpts and photos of the participants here on our website:
