The Oak Ridge Symphony is joining forces with four choirs and four soloists to present Beethoven's monumental Symphony No.9, concluding the 2015-2016 season. Joining them on stage will be the Oak Ridge Chorus, Sound Company Youth Choir, the Variations Chorus from Pellissippi State, and members from the Swiss Youth Choir. The soloists are soprano, Katy Wolfe, mezzo-soprano, Sarah Fitch, tenor, Andrew Skoog, and baritone, Kevin Richard Doherty. Also on the program is Mozart's Divertimento in D, K.136.
Morning Concert host, Melony Dodson, has an interesting conversation with music director, Dan Allcott, about this work. Topics discussed are the meaning of the text, the political climate around the time that the work was composed, theories as to why Beethoven wrote such challenging music, and the complexities of the Final movement.
The concert is Saturday, April 16th at 7:30pm and will be given at the Oak Ridge High School performing arts center. More information is available at orcma.org or by phone at 483-5569
