Marble City Opera Presents Two One-Act Operas

Marble City Opera opens up its 2016-2017 season with two comedic one-act operas, performed tonight and tomorrow night (October 13th and 14th) at The Emporium in downtown Knoxville.  Gallantry by Douglas Moore is a soap-opera opera, complete with commercial breaks selling the wonders of Lochinvar soap.  La Divina by Thomas Pasatieri is a hilarious tale about an opera diva who's slowly realizing that she may be past her vocal prime.

In this interview, Morning Concert host, Melony Dodson, chats with general and artistic director, Kathryn Frady, and soprano, Jacquie Brecheen.

Performances begin at 8pm. More information is available online at www.marblecityopera.com

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
