Knoxville Opera Presents Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance"

Operas and musicals have long provided an escape from the day-to-day and also, perhaps, from troubling times. Live theatre transports us to another time and place and that's exactly what Knoxville Opera's production of The Pirates of Penzance will do this weekend. Gilbert & Sullivan's music pleases the ear, while the hilariously entertaining story will tickle the funny bone.  Performances are Friday, October 21st at 7:30 and Sunday, October 23rd at 2:30 and, as always, will be given in the magnificent Tennessee Theatre.

In this interview, Melony Dodson chats with baritone, Sean Anderson, who is singing the role of the Pirate King, and soprano, Claire Coolen, who is portraying Mabel.

More information is available online at www.knoxvilleopera.com or by phone at 865-524-0795.

Melony calls the beautiful mountains of Boone, N.C., home, although she was born near Greensboro, N.C. There’s just something about those Blue Ridge Mountains that got in her blood and never left after she moved there to attend Appalachian State University (ASU). While at ASU, she majored in piano performance and music therapy and began to cultivate a love for accompanying and for collaborating with other musicians. This soon led her to earn a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the University of Tennessee, which she attended from 2006-2008.
