Eleanor Smeal describes herself as a women's rights advocate, but she's known as one of the leaders of the modern feminist movement. Smeal is a three-time president of the National Organization of Women and she's the founder of the Feminist Majority Foundation. In 1974, the historic Bijou Theatre in downtown Knoxville was in danger of demolition because of neglect. On April 1st of that year, a group called Knoxville Heritage was formed and they raised enough money to save the Bijou.
