A Beacon of Light

 

The unusual object pictured below, in a sequence from dark to fully lit, is the beacon that at one time sat atop the WUOT broadcast tower. It now resides in the back lobby of our studios. When it was a working beacon, it had two 620-watt bulbs and, depending on the weather, could be seen anywhere from a mile to over 20 miles away. As it appears here, it has two 60-watt bulbs.
