The 40 works in the Illustrators 53 exhibit are a representative sample of the best in the six categories of the annual exhibition: sequential, editorial, book, advertising, institutional and uncommissioned. All the works were featured in the juried Illustrators 53 Annual Exhibition at the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators in 2010, says the Society of Illustrators website.

Illustrator Charles Vess of Abingdon, Va., will give a lecture Thursday, Feb. 16, at 5:30 p.m. in Ball Hall Auditorium with a gallery talk and reception to follow in the galleries. All events are free and open to the public.

Sam Hatmaker is a 13-year-old singer/songwriter who has written over 90 songs. She currently sings at American Oldies Theater in Pigeon Forge and with Bob Hamill's Variety Show at various benefits. For the last 3 years she has appeared at Dollywood in Sha-kon-o-hey and O Holy Night. She has been active in local theater, appearing in over 24 productions with Children's Theater of Knoxville, Tin Soldier Productions, Erin Youth Players, and others, and is featured in 2 upcoming independent films (Macbeth and Woman in the Mirror).

The 6th Annual Winter Heritage Festival in the Smokies is a celebration of East Tennessee history, Appalachian traditions, and the natural beauty of Townsend, Tenn., Cades Cove and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The winter festival offers everyone an opportunity to enjoy and learn about the area's heritage and traditions through a variety of presentations, storytelling, music, exhibits, nature walks and tours. The four-day event will take place at several locations in the Townsend and Maryville area, including the Townsend Visitors Center, the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center, the Little River Railroad Museum, and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

The Knox Brass Worx will present a concert at First Presbyterian Church, Knoxville on Sunday, February 5 at 1:15 p.m. The program ranges from music by Percy Grainger and Fats Waller to Felix Mendelssohn and John Rutter's Te Deum for choir, brass, and percussion. The concert is free and open to the public. Free parking is available at the church and the State Street garage for this event.
